Short description

A Western tactics game where both sides plan five seconds of a gunfight in secret, and then everything happens at once.

Longer description

Pine Box Ridge is a turn-based Western, except that nobody takes it in turns. A turn is five seconds of a gunfight, and you spend it laying out what your side is going to do: draw, fire, move, get down behind something, reload, wait. The other side is doing the same thing and you can't see any of it. Then both plans run together, a tenth of a second at a time.

Every shot tells you its chance before you commit to it and shows you what it rolled afterwards, so you always know what you were risking. Cover only protects what's behind it, so a man kneeling behind a trough can still be hit in the head. Fights are short and they go wrong in a hurry.

Some fights start at a bar instead. In the saloon you talk to people, lean on them, buy a drink, pay somebody off, and none of their motives are written down anywhere you can see. You go on what they let slip. If the talking fails it becomes a gunfight, played exactly like any other one.
